With forecast of severe storms due on the Sunday evening, Tracey & Mark escaped relatively unscathed on a reasonably warm Octobers day in Farnham just outside of Guildford, albeit one or two light showers now and again.
The venue, part of the Best Western chain overlooks a lovely pond and with palm trees lining the outside of the hotel its a very contemporary setting for a wedding. The main room itself is nice and modern and the dancefloor is tucked away under the carpet, along the window side of the room there are a number of stone pillars that look great once uplit (please see photos below).
From a DJ’s perspective you would need to get your kit into the lobby area at the rear of the building as set up isn’t really possible before the meal as tables are placed on and around the dancefloor. With Tracey & Mark wanting to use the arch for the disco, the height of the ceiling is a bit of an issue so the only place you can really set that up is where the ceiling is slightly higher in places. You could set up towards the back of the room but its too far and detached from the dance floor so the only other option is during room turnaround time, if you have already got the equipment into the lobby earlier in the day then its quite straight forward.
Tracey and Mark had actually been together for 27 years and had already changed their name by deed poll, so it was great to be able to announce them officially as a married couple as they took their first dance to Buddy Holly’s “True Love Ways” following the cutting of the cake at 830 …and with a great atmosphere already in the room the evening got off to a rousing start as I went straight into some of former mod Marks requests from the 60’s. Later on we had an hour from the 90’s dedicated to Tracey’s favourite dance tunes and for the final couple of hours we wrapped up the majority of the remainder of the playlist and playing to the crowd with various tracks covering the 70s, 80s, 90’s and latest charts. The dance floor was packed for the entire evening and certainly lived up to Marks earlier comment that “90 per cent of the crowd are dancers”.
The evening was embraced by younger and older guests with something for everyone, we managed to grab some video highlights from the evening as shown in the video below and wish Tracey and Mark all the very best for the future and their honeymoon which the couple are planning to take touring about in Northern England.
