24 hours of snowfall in the North Kent area on Friday caused a few dilemmas about whether the first Choice event of 2013 may have to be postponed, however thanks to a respite in the weather during Saturday we kicked off 2013 as scheduled in Wilmington for teenager Emma’s birthday party.

Leyton Cross Social Club is a members only club, a non profit making venue built essentially for the local community, all funds go straight back into the club …over the years they have extended and developed the venue to a high standard giving the locals somewhere to be proud of. In order to book the hall you must be a member, I believe a years membership is around £30 but as far as the hall is concerned it’s definately one of the best private venues in the dartford area. You can dry hire the hall or choose to pay a bit extra and have the bar open, if you dry hire then concertina doors close off the bar area. The hall accomodates around 100 guests, more when the bar is in use, its a blank canvas but a very clean, warm and great access with good parking facilities.

As far as the event is concerned, I set up the usual light show so that Emma and her friends could enjoy their first taste of a disco experience and all the fun that’s on the horizon in the coming years, we also installed 10 uplighters into the venue set to purple and blue matching the balloons. Due to the young age of the guests we arnt posting any photos from this event except a few chosen by the organiser.

With the party beggining at 7pm and finishing at 10pm, it was a night dominated by latest chart music with a few requests near the end for some novelty music, halfway through the evening Emmas parents lit up the birthday girls face with a fantastic birthday cake adorned with a couple of indoor sparklers.

My ratio of birthday parties is low compared to the wedding and corporate work I usually do but its always nice to do something a bit different and this night was enjoyable as any other because the girls there had a great time and that’s the object of the exercise. Also the nice early finish ensured that everyone got home safely just before the bad weather began again the following morning, all in all a great start to the new year …next week we are down on the south coast for Jayne and Alastair’s reception, our first wedding of 2013 !
