A rare weekend off from the weddings for the first night of back to back birthdays starting off on the Friday at Southern Valley Golf Club in Thong Lane, Gravesend for 90’s dance music lover Nikki’s 40th.
We got into the venue at around 5pm to firstly set up the uplighters Nikki had booked, injecting a burst of pink onto the walls throughout the environment, the owner of the club watched with interest and must of been really impressed with the change as he then took the product code and within 10 minutes had been online to buy 10 for his corporate parties throughout December 🙂
The function room is a decent size with a good sized dance floor included, however it is butted up against the walls so its difficult to set up a symetrical DJ position, I had already met Nikki a couple of weeks before the party just to fine tune all the music details and we had finally agreed that the best position was going to be in the corner of the room on the actual dance floor as we wanted to keep everyone as close to the lighting and atmosphere as possible. Actually this worked pretty well in the end as the floor is a decent size.

After an hour of 80s and 90s Soul Trevor Nelson style we kicked off the party for real around 930-10 following the buffet, guests had also been entertained during the food by a fantastic magician who Nikki had hired in. Once the lights had been dimmed and the alcohol kicked in it proved to be a memorable night with a good long set of Nikki’s 90s favourites finishing on her favourite track Rhythm on the Loose “Break of Dawn”, also in the mix was a batch of guest requests including some latest charts and a rock/indie section with some party classics thrown into the mix for good measure.
All the best to Nikki on the big four zero and to husband Paul for his upcoming 40th in 2014.
