With a very busy time approaching at the end of the month and seven more weddings on the horizon in a ten day period we were at Nathalie & Nick’s wedding last Saturday …and what a night this was at Westerham Gold Club for one of the biggest wedding nights of the summer so far.

Nathalie & Nick

We had worked at Westerham Golf Club earlier in the year so were looking forward to our second visit after an excellent first experience at the venue in May.

Nathalie and Nick had actually booked in as a result of being guests at Elizabeth & Gareth’s wedding at Sissinghurst Castle last year, in a further link Nick’s brother Mike had also booked me for his wedding to Diana at Fennes Estate in Braintree last month. Nick was best man on that occasion and today roles reversed with Mike being best man for Nick. Mike came and said hi as we arrived to set up towards the end of the meal and we also got to have a quick chat with original clients Gareth and Elizabeth who have now been married for just over a year …so was nice to catch up with some familiar faces before the first dance.

The night at Sissinghurst Castle 14 months ago was an excellent evening but unfortunately it was a relatively early 10:30pm finish as a result of local residential issues at The National Trust venue …so expectations were high for this one as some of the guests were also present from last years wedding and music tastes very similar with the majority of guests in their 30’s and very much into the 90s Indie Rock scene.

Elizabeth & Gareth’s wedding in June 2012

One thing about this wedding that mirrored Mike & Diana’s last month were the excellent speeches …after an emotional and slightly nervous opening speech from Nathalie’s dad the groom entertained the guests with stories of his “long awaited” engagement to Nathalie as well as a few anecdotes from their early days together, best man Mike then delivered his speech sharing stories of himself and Nick’s childhood not to mention highlighting his delight that his brother had the tactical foresight to choose a date when Charlton Athletic were playing away from home to stage the wedding 😀 …of course that wasn’t true as the date was planned long before the fixtures were announced, but with myself also being a Charlton fan I was also pretty pleased to see that that they were away to Barnsley, for the record the game finished as a 2-2 draw. Sometimes grooms don’t embrace this part of the day but both Nick and Mike are excellent natural speakers and for the second time in a month both provided original and humourous speeches.

set up with bar behind

For anyone considering one of our packages at this venue, we can set up either our total music or creative mood lighting packages before the guests arrival, or like on this occasion the venue can provide some screens whilst we set up during the meal.

With the wedding running slightly behind time we were set up before the speeches took place so once the formalities were completed and the room turnaround taking place we had an opportunity to start building the atmosphere with about 45 minutes of 90s Indie tunes before Paul Weller’s first dance just before 9pm.

The dance floor at Westerham Golf Club is in the centre of the room along with the DJ set up, its one of the only venues I’ve been to where the guests can congregate behind the DJ Booth as the bar is behind the set up. Its a bit strange but it works well and gives guests the opportunity to see whats going on behind the mixer, make requests and generally interact.

“insomnia”

The evening guests had started to arrive from 730 onwards as the speeches were taking place and there was an excellent vibe in the room even before a song had been played, midway through the evening Nathalie’s bouquet toss was the only brief respite on the rocking dance floor and even the arrival of the buffet failed to deter the eager crowd, it was pretty much packed from start to finish and hit all the expectations thanks to the quality of the music and the fact the guest requests generally all came from from the same genre with many great memories and highlights during the 90s, Indie Rock and Motown sets.

So congratulations to the new Mr & Mrs Angliss (for the second time in 6 weeks) …an excellent night, and having given out quite a few business cards hopefully the first of many more with this great crowd.

Next week see’s the start of a very busy end of the month with 7 weddings in 10 days starting at Eastwell Manor on Friday, check back soon for all the latest news, reviews and photos from the 2013 wedding season very soon.
