After a much needed days recovery yesterday to dry out after Saturdays wet marquee experience in Westerham we moved onto Kristee and Terry’s wedding at Turkey Mill, its a venue we have played at on many occasions and like ourselves they were also a finalist at the 2012 Kent Wedding Awards …

Kristee & Terry

Turkey Mill became “Club Spearpoint” as Rochester descended on the venue for this exceptionally lively Bank Holiday Monday wedding in The Orangery.

I had a long chat with Terry a couple of weeks before the wedding following the “stag do” in Vegas and we spoke about what he and Kristee were looking to achieve music wise for their wedding reception. With the couple and the majority of guests in their 20’s Terry was keen to recreate an atmosphere that reflected the couples love of R&B and Dance music from the past 10 years with some old skool UK Garage thrown into the mix.

We arrived at Turkey Mill at 6pm ready for the 630 set up, for any DJ’s visiting the venue access is via a ramp (follow the signs for “Orangery deliveries”), it isn’t generally possible to set up any equipment before the meal but what the venue do allow you to do space permitting is arrive in the morning and store equipment in a cupboard in the room, however in this instance it wasn’t possible so we arrived a bit early to give ourselves plenty of time to get everything ready to come in during the room turnaround after the speeches. If you are getting married at the venue then FYI there is a small PA installed in the Orangery which is fine for background music and your speeches.

The room is also perfect for our Creative Mood Lighting package which we have installed here many times, 5 on each side of the room is ample with purple, green, pink and blue working best against the white walls, it is possible to have these set up before the meal if required. The disco sets up on the left hand side and plays across the width of the room, its where the top table generally goes although on this occasion the top table was at the far end which I personally think gives a better backdrop for photos inside the room. The long room also many access points which lead out onto the patio areas giving secluded views of the grounds including plenty of fantastic photo opportunities with the lake, bridge and general parkland feel, Turkey Mill also has a classy mirrored room adjacent to the Orangery for your Civil Ceremony.

The speeches ran slightly over so we didn’t get into the room till nearly 730 but we got set up within the hour …and with Terry and his entourage in buoyant mood outside a big night in Maidstone was looking assured.

Kristee and Terry cut the cake just before 9pm before hitting the floor for their first dance …and from that point onwards it didn’t stop, we managed to get all the music out that the bride and groom were looking for and the guests loved it. There were no signs of any dodgy requests to scupper the flow of the evening, although a pretty drunk best man did mention the Macarena on our arrival but was quickly cut down to size by Terry on that one.

The highlights for me were the reaction of the stag boys to “No Beef” and “Turbulence”, songs which I think played a big part of the stag do in Vegas and the UK Garage set I played which went down very well with all the girls, in fact one guest came up to me shortly after that with a note asking me to save the date for her wedding in March next year …a big garage fan so will be looking forward to that one 🙂

end of a great night at Turkey Mill

It all ended perfectly with a late request for “Candy” by Cameo before Kristee’s final two songs of the night as everyone formed a circle around the bride and groom to wish them on their way …their first port of call will be Mauritius for their honeymoon this Friday so we wish them a safe journey and a great holiday.

What I really appreciated was that not only did the brides dad come up and thank us at the end but Terry also gave me a call two days after the wedding to thank me for helping him create the vision he was looking for on their special night, not many people take the time to do that so I thought that was a very nice touch especially when you have been working closely with a client. During conversation it turned out the party continued at a Maidstone hotel well into the early hours of Tuesday morning …that didn’t come as any surprise as it was a high octane night that could of certainly gone on a lot longer if there had been a later license …and with all the photos now on our facebook group hopefully they can both sit back on their honeymoon and relive some of the great moments from their wedding reception.

Congratulations to you both once again.

We have two days off now and then the weekend starts again on Thursday at The Old Kent Barn with 5 weddings in 6 days finishing at Pembroke Lodge, all the usual blogs and photos to follow in due course once we have caught our breath !
