Emily & Sam
With Bronwyn & Ryan’s wedding fresh in the mind and only 8 days ago at the same venue there was a case of Deja Vu as I arrived back to team up again with Heather who is one of the co ordinator’s at the venue for a wedding that had a very similar feeling to last weeks.
Like Ryan last week, Emily had also booked in quite late – probably no more than 6 weeks before the wedding and like last Thursday it was another really enjoyable evening in the Great Hall at Chiddingstone. Emily had adopted a very flexible approach with only a handful of requests and it was pretty much left to me to ensure that the evening flowed which it certainly did.
Starting slightly earlier at 830 this week and with the earlier finish at the venue (11pm) in mind, guests piled onto the floor for the newledweds first dance and stayed there till the end of the evening with no shortage of guest requests during the two and a half hours. It was quite an intimate wedding with a smaller number of guests than last week and the crowd was a mix of mid 20’s and 50-60’s, so the requests of Latest Charts and Party Classics worked well with both younger and older guests indulging in all the music played. Emily’s brother proved to be one of this years disco legends as he spent the entire duration dancing and entertaining people with his moves around the floor, except for about 30 seconds when he went crashing down in front of the booth as a result of a slippery floor.

Today was also my own 10th Anniversary …to mark that I booked a 3 week trip to Miami in January when the wedding season is at it’s quietest, but in a strange twist I was surprised to get a request for “Zombie Nation”, it’s a song that I very much associate during trips to “The Cage” Bournemouth in the early 2000’s before I got married. Good to get a chance to play that actually and it got the dance floor absolutely heaving for the final hour with a few other 90’s classics before using SL2 “On a ragga trip” to link into some requested Ska before finishing the set off with a few of the tunes I had held back from Emily’s playlist.
There wasn’t a final song detailed but for some reason I chose The Calling “Wherever You Will Go” …not for any particular reason except I had a feeling it would fit right with the crowd …the song went down excellently and afterwards whilst chatting to the bride and groom I learnt that it was Emily’s favourite song, and in the grooms own words, “it was almost like it was staged to be that way” …always nice to hear comments like that as it shows you have obviously made a connection and read the dance floor correctly.
This one could of certainly lasted a while longer but it did give me an opportunity to get an earlier night than usual before tomorrows trip to Aldershot Barracks for a war hero’s wedding, more to follow on that but in the meantime today was Emily & Sam’s day …congratulations to you both – an excellent evening and a real buzz about the place at the end !
