gold dust: hannah & tim absorb the crowds energy

Client: Hannah & Tim Risbridger

Event: Wedding

Venue: Chiddingstone Castle, Kent

Date: February, 23 2013

Music Requested: 60s-Present Day Structured Playlist

On the stroke of midnight DJ Phil Webster mixed in Gold Dust to bring down the curtain on Hannah & Tim’s dream playlist for their Castle reception, it couldn’t of been a more appropriate song to sum up an epic Saturday evening that had it all.

Phil says, “We covered 50 odd years of music in sequence working upto the modern day in just over 3hrs and even had time for a brief power failure in the main hall, but at no point throughout the entire evening did that dance floor stop”.

“Tim had spent an awful lot of time working on the music and I know how important to him the success of the evening was. He came to me from the outset and had this idea that we were going to start with some 50s background music before the first dance, then move through the decades starting with the 60’s up to the modern day finishing on a high energy song. He gave me a playlist broken into sections with a certain amount of songs in each section, some were marked as “definate” and some “if possible”, I spent about 5 hours on the Friday morning trying to organise it as there were near to 150 songs on the list. I whittled it down to the definates which worked out to 89 songs, still too many for an evening but I said to Tim with some of them being shorter old songs and then the mixing element losing some of the start and ends of the tracks we may still pull it off. I had it in my mind to play 30 mins of 60’s, 30 mins of 70’s then an hour each of 80’s,90’s and 00’s as the older decades were slightly less populated with definates”

“The first dance was scheduled for 8pm but the wedding was running slightly behind and we lost nearly an hour at the start so I decided to start out as planned and just go with it. I can honestly say that from the first moment until the last song the floor was absolutely heaving, the bride and groom wern’t off the floor all night which was brilliant to see. I had to cut back the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s back to 40 mins each to claw back the lost hour but it flowed beautifully from start to finish, Hannah and Tim totally nailed the playlist …it was just a case of me organising the order as we went and keeping my eye on the time so that there was enough time for each era”

“What none of us could of anticipated though was a total loss of power in the main hall bang in the middle of Whitney Houston at 10.16, it transpired that someone had spilt a drink into a plug socket causing the whole power to trip in that room, I’m presuming that staff had some trouble locating the fusebox as there was a 15 minute gap but once the power was restored we picked up straight where we left off thanks to everyone who kept the faith and waited patiently. Sometimes these things can be annoying at the time but then after they form part of our memories of the great nights.

This weekends weddings have been classic example’s that the best nights DJ’ing are all about the people, if the people have a great time it brings immense satisfaction …this job is not by a long shot about playing music that you like, its about making people happy. One moment that I particularly enjoyed was Hannah had requested mixing the two “You’ve got the love” versions together to end the 90’s and start the 00’s, this worked really well and something I will be definately be using again in the future”

“On a footnote it was a really enjoyable experience, Hannah and Tim were both lovely people. Hannah seems like a real character, extrovert and charming, they make a great couple … Incidently I have to say she looked stunning in her dress, I don’t normally comment on bridal attire but it had a real 50’s look about it with lace incorporated into the arms. She told me she works in the fashion industry, all I can say is that if she designed that dress then she should be very proud of herself, it did look amazing on her …and the same goes for the bridesmaids dresses, very different to the norm but looked fantastic. If your reading this Hannah feel free to drop a link in below to let us know where the bridal party attire originated from …finally congratulations to you both once again and all the very best for the future”
