What a day that will live long in the memory! After an early start in South East London for Charlton’s final game of the season, a thumping 4-1 home win over relegated Bristol City, the celebrations moved 30 miles north to my mates house in Harlow then onto nearby Bluntswood Hall for Anna & Chris’s wedding.

It was our first visit to this venue and it all worked very well in terms of the Plug and Play package, which is set up after the meal. The guests vacate the room whilst the room turnaround takes place which gives enough time to enter via a side door which has nice easy access. The venue lay a nice chequered dance floor which I guess was around 16×16, a nice high ceiling meant the arch and booth slotted nicely into place at the rear of the room and with no restrictions on haze machines I was able to set off the lighting perfectly and provide the dancefloor with the atmosphere it deserved. The room also has its own bar which I’m a big fan of as it keeps everyone together in the party room for the night rather than some venues where the bar is in a different area which proves to be a bit counteractive sometimes.

Anna hits the high’s

Anna and Chris had been really flexible as far as the music was concerned, it was obvious from the few advance requests and the guest requests on the night that it was going to be a more Rock based set that was going to work best …which proved to be exactly the case. It’s something I try to stress to clients a month before the wedding in the event checklist, it’s a useful document because from just a few simple questions you can gauge in advance the tastes of all involved and it eliminates trial and error on the night. On the night itself Anna was a big hit on the floor, she barely left the chequered surface all evening which is a dream scenario as it attracts everyone else to join her for the evening celebrations on her special day, good music = happy bride & groom = happy guests = successful wedding reception ! Chris was also there or thereabouts most of the evening which was also great as sometimes you don’t see much of the grooms throughout the night once the bar is open for action 😀

great scenes towards the end of a big night in Hertfordshire

The plan for this one was to hold all the big rock numbers back for the last hour or so and if you check out the playlist below you can see they came thick and fast, once the crowd were all on the floor for Chesney Hawkes they were there to stay till the very end. One of my main memories will always be the reaction of the brides father at the end of the night who was absolutely thrilled to bits to hear “The Final Countdown” by Europe, it never ceases to amaze me how music makes people so happy sometimes, its such a powerful force evoking memories and emotions and I hope he will have many happy memories in the future remembering that one on his daughters wedding night.

To sum up in brief, an excellent wedding at an excellent wedding venue and a very memorable day overall. We both said on the way home what a lovely couple Anna and Chris were and we hope they have an amazing future together.

We are back out on the road this Thursday at Katie & James wedding and then again on Saturday at Jo and Ben’s, both new venues with the usual real wedding and venue reviews to follow.
